Dr. Koplos lives in El Paso and is married with three children. She was born in east Texas and graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Texas A&M in 1992. She attended the University of Houston College of Optometry during which time she did an externship with the top Neuro-ophthalmologist in Houston, Texas and one at the El Paso Veterans' Hospital. She was awarded the Corning Low Vision Award. Dr. Koplos was a co-author of the article "Telemedicine Screening of Glaucoma" published in Telemedicine Journal in 1999. Her fundus photography telemedicine data was used by a team of specialty ophthalmologists for several other telemedicine articles covering the validity of telemedicine and digital photography for the diagnosis and treatment of diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma. After graduating from optometry school in 1997 Dr. Koplos moved to El Paso and started the only low vision clinic in El Paso. In 2009 she joined a large medical optometry clinic where she provided low vision, vision rehab and medical eyecare. Dr. Koplos recognized the need for myopia intervention and began myopia management in 2019. Because of her 25 years of treating severe permanent vision loss, much of which was the result of high myopia, Dr. Koplos is particularly passionate about promoting awareness that childhood myopia, when allowed to progress year after year without intervention, significantly increases the risk of many eye conditions that often result in permanent vision loss later in life and sometimes in childhood. In 2020 Dr. Koplos opened the regional optometric referral clinic, Advanced Vision Solutions, where she is the solo practioner providing Myopia Management, Vision Rehabilitation, Vision Therapy, Neuro-optometric Rehab and Sports Vision. At the referral clinic all methods of Myopia Management are prescribed based on the specific needs of the child, pre-teen, teen or young adult to best address the stage and agressiveness of myopia progression with the goal of preventing permanent vision loss and providing optimal vision throughout life.
