Nearsightedness (Myopia) is likely the first concept covered in clinical training in Optometry school, as a majority of the students have the diagnosis. Myopia has increased dramatically world wide over the two decades since I graduated, and it is accelerating; impacting over 90% of school aged children in many Asian countries. The US is not far behind. Until relatively recently, the only treatments available were stronger glasses or contact lenses. I experienced this decline in my own youth as I needed more correction every year just to maintain the same vision. Today, this seemingly inevitable erosion can be slowed significantly and even halted in some cases. We can now offer the possibility to our children that their vision does not need to degrade year over year. Modern Myopia Management can be what we have not had until now, the hope for our children to have a better outcome than we did.
