About Dr. Susan Jong

Dr. Jong received her doctorate degree from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN in 1979 where a strong interest in vision therapy developed. At the same time, she started expanding her knowledge about the new field of orthokeratology. With the improved ortho-k designs, Dr. Jong started wearing ortho-k lenses in 1997 and still enjoys the freedom of only having to wear lenses at night. Because of Dr. Jong's passion for helping patients, exclusive assessments and therapy programs are continually implemented which draw patients from all of Louisiana plus the surrounding states. During her spare time, Dr. Jong enjoys reading, traveling and abiding by the motto of "learn something new every single day". She and her husband, David Pate, are the parents of four fantastic daughters who make life interesting and fun!

Myopia management is the perfect adjunct to our vision therapy specialty with the same goal - helping kids function better through vision improvement. Love being able to tell parents there is a better solution to their child's progressing myopia instead of just stronger glasses or contact lenses. This was completely opposite of my personal experience. My myopia started in 4th grade and worsened every 6-8 months which meant stronger and thicker glasses each time. Now with myopia management, children with progressive myopia no longer have to settle for the "old way" of just increasing their prescription glasses/contact lenses.
